16GB RAM phones’ existence threatened by memory shortage | Infinium-tech
Memes about RAM prices are funny and all, but nothing beats the consequences of a memory supply shortage. The news on the street is that phones with 16GB RAM will become extinct next year and we will see the return of budget phones with 4GB RAM.

We’ve already seen some flagships with increased prices compared to their predecessors, and now we hear that Samsung is planning to hike the prices of its mid-range lineup in India.
However, raising prices is not a universal solution. In price-sensitive markets, smartphone makers would prefer to cut costs rather than move up the price ladder. The source believes we’ll start seeing phones with 4GB RAM more frequently, while 16GB devices will become rare.
There are even some statistics thrown in here and there. For example, 12GB RAM units will be reduced by 40% and replaced by 6GB/8GB phones.
This is a direct effect of the ever-increasing demand for high-bandwidth memory chips (HBM) and GDDR5 DRAM chips by rapidly growing AI datacenters.
