Xiaomi is developing a 7,500 mAh smartphone battery with 100W charging | Infinium-tech
Xiaomi was once the first company to launch a smartphone with over 200W wired charging, but it is now focusing on building bigger batteries rather than chasing the diminishing benefits of faster charging rates.
Digital Chat Station reported on its Weibo channel that the Chinese manufacturer is developing a technology that will allow the smartphone to power a 7,000 mAh battery with 120W charging or a 7,500 mAh battery with 100W charging.
Here are all the combinations under consideration at the R&D center in Nanjing Science and Technology Park, China.
Capacity | Rate | Full Charge |
5,000 mAh | 120 watts | 18 minutes |
5,500 mAh | 100 watts | 34 minutes |
6,000 mAh | 120 watts | 30 minute |
6,500 mAh | 100 watts | 49 minutes |
7,000 mAh | 120 watts | 40 minutes |
7,500 mAh | 100 watts | 63 minutes |
Xiaomi is one of many smartphone companies abandoning faster rates for better battery capacity. Honor, Vivo and OnePlus (as well as Oppo and Realme) are switching to silicon-carbon cells that offer higher energy density, but not necessarily the fastest charging we’ve seen.
We have already seen that the Vivo X Fold 3 has a 5,500mAh battery with 80W charging in a 4.7mm thin body, while the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro has a 6,100mAh cell with 100W charging. We will have to wait and see which device Xiaomi will choose to be the first with the new battery technology.
