Samsung has introduced SmartThings Family Care for caregivers. According to the Mayo Clinic, the company says that nearly 1 in 3 adults in the US provide some form of caregiving. That means there’s a need for tech-based solutions to ease the burden of caregiving, and SmartThings Family Care is exactly for that.

This is a new service available to U.S.-based owners of Samsung smartphones. It starts rolling out tomorrow, and it’s designed for older people, as well as those who need help with their daily tasks.

The company explained in its press release that Family Care “provides comprehensive schedule management, activity notifications, medication reminders, and location-based care using SmartThings, Samsung’s global connected living platform, along with smart home devices.”

With Family Care, caregivers receive alerts if any abnormalities are detected in their loved one’s daily routine. Family Care can recognize the first activity of the day, such as your loved one using their Samsung smartphone, and reassure you that they are okay.

Family members can receive reminders to check their blood pressure and blood sugar, and schedule appointments with their doctor through their Samsung smartphone or TV, to ensure their loved one is taking their medications regularly.

Caregivers receive alerts when their loved ones arrive at or leave a location, helping to ensure their safety. Samsung says this could be especially useful for scheduled medical appointments or regular trips to pharmacies.

Finally, caregivers can also set up automation to help their loved ones save energy, turn off appliances when no one is home, and improve air quality by automatically activating the Samsung Air Purifier when outdoor pollution is high.

The Family Care service will be available through the Life tab of the SmartThings app in the US. Samsung promises to continuously improve and expand Family Care in the future.
