Samsung patent hints at a rollable phone with movable camera module | Infinium-tech
After establishing itself as the leader in foldable smartphones, Samsung may now be exploring a rollable display smartphone, according to newly discovered patent filings.
The patent, seen by Wearview, describes a phone with a rollable screen and a movable rear camera module that changes positions with the extended display.

Based on the sketches in the patent filing as well as the renders created by Wearview, the device appears to feature a cutout on the rear panel to accommodate the camera module.

With the display housed in the main chassis, the device looks a lot like a traditional phone like the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, once the screen is fully extended, it takes on a look closer to that of the Galaxy Z Fold7.
The patent further mentions that the device may include sensors that may be able to detect changes in display size, changes in camera and antenna position, and other hardware adjustments due to the moving screen.

Notably, Samsung demonstrated a rollable OLED display prototype in 2023 and previously filed a patent in 2021 for a device with a display that could both roll and fold.
As with most patents, there is no guarantee that the concept will come to market. Still, the filing suggests that Samsung continues to explore the idea of a rollable smartphone, possibly along the lines of devices like the Moto Riser concept and Tecno’s Phantom Ultimate concept.
