Samsung released the stable One UI 8.5 update for the Galaxy A16 5G last month, and now it has started testing Android 17-based One UI 9 for the smartphone.

The One UI 9 build for the Galaxy A16 5G spotted on Samsung’s servers has firmware version A166BXXU8EZF1 and is being tested for the European market. However, don’t expect the smartphone to receive the One UI 9 beta or stable update any time soon, as Samsung has already released the One UI 9 beta for the Galaxy S26 series, which is likely to be the first to receive the stable update.

Additionally, Samsung had previously said that its upcoming folding smartphones would be the first to run One UI 9 out of the box. Samsung is expected to introduce three folding smartphones this year – Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Rumors claim that they will be unveiled at an event in London on July 22.
Coming back to the One UI 9 testing, Samsung is also working on One UI 9 for the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy A17 5G, Galaxy A34, Galaxy A57, and the unannounced Galaxy S26 FE.
