Huawei and Oppo could use square selfie sensor in future phones | Infinium-tech
Apple has used a square sensor for the selfie camera on the iPhone 17 series, and a new rumor suggests other brands may now follow suit. Huawei and Oppo could be the first Chinese brands to adopt the new square sensor in their upcoming phones.
Tipster Digital Chat Station claims that Huawei and Oppo are testing 1:1 sensors for the front-facing cameras. According to the leak, Huawei may introduce square selfie sensors in its camera-centric mid-range smartphones, possibly the Nova 16 series.
Meanwhile, Oppo is reportedly planning to use square front camera sensors on its flagship devices, possibly starting with the Find X10 series. The tipster says that Oppo’s implementation will be even more advanced than Apple’s.
Apple has equipped the iPhone 17 series with an 18MP selfie camera that uses a 1:1 square sensor and supports auto zoom. The square format enables seamless shooting in both portrait and landscape orientations without having to physically rotate the phone.
