HMD may have canceled the Fusion 2 modular smartphone | Infinium-tech
HMD launched a Fusion smartphone with a modular design in September of 2024, and a Fusion 2 was rumored in October last year. However, that hasn’t come to pass just yet, and now a new rumor from a usually reliable source of HMD-related information explains why.

Apparently HMD may have canceled the project altogether, leaving the original Fusion as its only modular smartphone. Cancellation is “not yet confirmed”, but if it occurs, it will be due to “high manufacturing costs and profitability issues”.

This makes sense because despite the constant hype around modular smartphones, no one is actually buying them – which makes managing the entire ecosystem of accessories and modules a very expensive endeavor. Sure, if Apple or Samsung somehow made their next flagship modular, it would likely be successful, but for a niche brand like HMD, not so much.
According to the same source below, the company plans to honor the three-year update promise for the original Fusion for consumers and the five-year update window for businesses.
