Google reinvents the search bar for the AI era | Infinium-tech
Today at its I/O conference Google announced the biggest upgrade to the search box in 25 years. And yes, of course – it’s AI-powered now, what were you expecting?
AI Mode has over a billion monthly users a year after its launch, and now Google Search has been upgraded with the Gemini 3.5 Flash model, just announced at I/O. This is the new default model for everyone globally. To meet its arrival, Google has re-imagined the search box with AI.
“It’s more intuitive than ever, expanding dynamically while giving you space to describe exactly what you need,” the company says. It anticipates your intent and helps you formulate questions with AI-powered suggestions “that go beyond autocomplete”.
It lets you search using text, images, files, videos – even Chrome tabs can be input. The Intelligent Search Box is rolling out today in all countries and languages where AI mode is available. You can now easily ask follow-up questions to the AI observation, and move into direct conversation with the AI mode. The experience is available today on desktop and mobile around the world.
This summer, search agents will launch for Google AI Pro and Ultra customers. These will work 24/7 in the background to find what you need and keep you updated on what matters most to you. So, for example, if you are looking for apartments, just tell Google your exact requirements and these agents will continuously scan for you and notify you when the listings meet your requirements.
Agent booking capabilities are expanding this summer in the US to support a wide range of new functions, including local experiences and services, with Google also able to call businesses on your behalf for select categories like home repair, beauty, or pet care.
Finally, Personal Intelligence in AI mode is expanding to more people in nearly 200 countries and regions in 98 languages, and with no subscription required. You can connect Gmail and Google Photos and soon Google Calendar.
