Apple secures ultra-thin glass supply for its first foldable screen device launching next year | Infinium-tech
According to a new supply-series report, Apple is going to launch its first device with a folding screen in the second half of next year. Next to this, the company has now exploited the Chinese manufacturer lens technique to manufacture ultra-skinned glass (UTG) which will be placed on top of the folding panel.
Lens technique is expected to secure about 70% of Apple’s UTG order, with the possibility of corning, with the supply of raw materials, today’s report claims. The lens technique was chosen by Appel thanks to the mass production capabilities for UTG manufacturing and its benefits in financial resources.
It is said that especially good in the glass of glass, it is good to strengthen and reduce the side crack after cutting. The supplier will expand its UTG production line before starting production for Apple later this year.
Apple clearly wants to dilute only the middle part of the Utg, the one who is closest to the hinge. This will allow for more and more overall UTG thickness and better durability. South Korean Dovo Inis and UTI are considered a potential secondary supplier for Apple, in the past, in October 2024, already two patents have already secured, which is related to diluting the middle part of the UTG. A patent for this is similar to Apple’s patent for the same technique.
The folding display will be supplied by the Samsung display, which is called an exclusive partner for Apple.
