Apple is looking to diversify its chip production with Intel and Samsung | Infinium-tech
Apple had a long-running partnership with Intel until the company decided to move away from the chip designer and manufacturer and rely on its own silicon for its MacBooks. Apple’s relationship with TSMC began in 2014, when the Taiwanese company shipped Apple A8 chips. TSMC has remained the sole chip supplier since then. Now, Apple is trying to restore its partnership with Intel.

Multiple reports suggest that Apple has been looking to diversify away from TSMC for quite some time, but due to supply chain disruptions by AI data centers and chip shortages, the matter has become more urgent in recent months. Even Apple admitted in its last earnings call that its reliance on TSMC alone could prove problematic in the future.
That’s why Apple is in the early stages of talks with Intel and Samsung. In fact, key Apple executives have already visited Samsung’s Texas factory, where production of advanced chips is expected to begin relatively soon.
The change in strategy comes just after Apple reorganized by merging the hardware engineering and hardware technology teams led by Johnny Sruzzi, the company’s chief hardware officer.
The main hurdle for Apple is finding a chip maker that is capable of delivering chips at scale and matching its yields. And so far, only TSMC has met Apple’s requirements, so Intel and Samsung will have to step up their game to secure those much-needed orders from Apple.
