Android 17 comes with a more convenient media app switcher | Infinium-tech
Google released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 just a few days ago, and it comes with some changes in the UI. One notable update is the media app switcher – it’s no longer a carousel.
New media app switcher in Android 17
While Android 16’s current media app switcher that appears in the notification shade required you to swipe left and right to switch between active media apps, Android 17 will bring a new, more convenient and clearer switching style.
In the new UI, Android minimizes other media apps into tiny cards that expand when you tap them. Not only does this make it more convenient and less likely to make a mistake, but it also makes it more obvious, especially for new users, to see that they can instantly switch between media apps.
On the other hand, minimized audio apps take up more space, making the active music app tab smaller and resulting in smaller player controls.
But that’s what beta versions are for. This is a working prototype, but we may see changes to the media player switcher before stable Android 17 hits the market.
