YouTube Music now limits how many song lyrics you can see on a non-Premium account | Infinium-tech
Google continues to shut down YouTube features as it moves them behind premium subscriptions. First, it disabled the background playback loophole. Now it wants to charge you for song lyrics on YouTube Music.
Several posts on the r/YouTubeMusic subreddit show the YouTube Music UI with a warning – “You have X views remaining, unlock songs with Premium”, where X starts at 5 and counts down to zero every time you press the song tab.
YouTube Music now requires a premium subscription if you want to see (more than a few) song lyrics
This has been in the works for some time now – it was in September when the first reports surfaced that some users were getting the “Unlock songs with Premium” prompt. However, it was only seen by a few users – it seems it was a trial run.
Now, many More Users are seeing this, which shows that testing has been done and Google has adopted a new policy.
We haven’t seen official confirmation of this change yet, but in the case of background playback, it took a few days for the change to be implemented before Google posted an official statement.
YouTube Music Premium costs $11 per month in the US, but you can get it as part of YouTube Premium for $14 per month (it also removes ads and enables background play on YouTube videos). In Europe, prices vary by country.
