Weekly poll: the Tecno Phantom V Fold2 and V Flip2 are launching next week, do you want one? | Infinium-tech
A year ago, Tecno introduced its first foldable smartphone. Now the company has introduced the second generation model, which brings some significant improvements, but some things remain the same as they were.
Starting with the Tecno Phantom V Fold2, this horizontal foldable is now noticeably thinner and lighter – 12mm and 249g, down from the 14.5mm and 299g of the previous generation. That’s right, over 2mm thinner and 50g lighter, and Tecno has still managed to increase the battery size to 5,750mAh (750mAh more than the original).
The new body also features an IP54 rating for basic dust and water resistance. Everything else is more or less the same, including the Dimensity 9000+ chipset and two screens: a 7.85” 120Hz LTPO inner panel and a 6.42” cover display. However, Tecno has added stylus support.
Talking about the Tecno Phantom V Flip2, it is slightly thicker and heavier at 16mm and 196 grams, while the original model came in at 15mm and 194 grams. However, it now comes with a larger (for a flip foldable) 4,720mAh battery, which is 720mAh more than the original model. Both the V Fold2 and V Flip2 have fast wired charging at 70W (up from 45W).
The biggest upgrade here is the 3.64” cover display, which wraps around the cameras and covers almost the entire top half. This is much more practical than the circular display on the first-generation V Flip. Tecno claims that over 2,000 apps can run directly on the new cover display.
One oddity is that the new model has the Dimensity 8020, which is a downgrade from the 8050 in the original model. It’s basically the same chip, except it doesn’t have the high-clocked prime core. Both the V Flip2 and V Fold2 have upgraded 50MP ultra wide cameras (up from 13MP). The Flip also has a new 50MP main camera with a slightly larger sensor (1/1.57” vs 64MP 1/1.73”). However, this model didn’t get an IP rating. Both new V phones have AI features powered by Google’s Gemini, all the usual stuff we’d expect.
