nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Version in for review | Infinium-tech
The Nubia Z60 Ultra arrived in December 2023 as one of the first phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The following month Samsung announced the Galaxy S24 lineup featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the Galaxy chipset, with slightly higher clock speeds.
Either the exclusivity deal between Samsung and Qualcomm was over, or the San Diego chipmaker has managed to produce enough units of the faster chipset because it is now available to other manufacturers as well. Apparently a rebrand was needed and it is now known as the “leading version” instead of “for Galaxy S10”.
Nubia was quick to take advantage of this and relaunched the Z60 Ultra, but with an overclocked chipset and a number of other improvements, most notably a host of AI features. The phone is called the Nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Edition, and we have it in for review.
The design is essentially unchanged — we’re grateful to have received the Silver version of the flagship, because otherwise, we’d have a hard time distinguishing the new phone from the older one, which we’ve already reviewed.
It comes with a hard plastic case for protection, a red USB-C cable, and an 80W charger in the box.
The Leading Edition features the same 50MP 35mm main camera, a 64MP telephoto with 85mm equivalent, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. It claims to have improved optics of the main camera, as well as the overall performance of the 12MP selfie camera sitting below the display.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU has a Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.4 GHz, while the Adreno 750 GPU is clocked at 1 GHz instead of 900 MHz.
We will try our best to find out how much difference these will make.
We will also test the NeoVision AI camera features including AI Blur, AI Removal, and AI Sky Colour Change.
Once we finish our review of the Nubia Z60 Ultra Prime Edition, we’ll make a decision on whether the phone is worth its $599 starting price.
