Fairphone 5 now has a cheaper 6/128GB variant and a new color to go with it | Infinium-tech

When the Fairphone 5 launched at the end of August 2023, it was priced at €700/£650 for the 8/256GB unit – that was the only configuration available at the time. Now the company is introducing a more affordable variant and a new colourway too.

There’s also a 6/128GB version of the Fairphone 5 now available, priced at €550/£500 (note: online stores show the price as €500 in some regions). The original 8/256GB version is still available and has also received a price cut, to €630/£570. The phone has a microSD slot, so expanding storage is easy. However, Fairphone is promising support until 2030, and by that time 6GB of RAM will probably seem pretty small.

The new colourway is Moss Green and you can only get it in a 6/128GB configuration. Alternatively, you can go with the Matte Black option. The Sky Blue and Transparent versions only come in 8/256GB.

You can find both variants of the Fairphone 5 at the company’s store. Online StoreThe older Fairphone 4 is still available at €450/£420, but you’ll probably be better off with the 6/128GB Fairphone 5. A while back, Fairphone’s CEO revealed that the company wanted to launch phones for even less than €400, but it looks like that’s a long way off.

You can follow the source link to the blog post where Fairphone explains why it thinks 6GB of RAM is enough. Basically, the company argues that unless you’re a heavy user, the ideal RAM capacity is somewhere between 6GB and 12GB, while 16GB to 24GB of RAM “may be superfluous”.
