Apple Watch sleep apnea detection is now FDA certified | Infinium-tech
After the FDA authorized a new hearing aid mode for the AirPods Pro 2 last week, today Apple has another wearable in a similar situation. Sleep apnea detection for the Apple Watch is now certified by the FDA.
It will work with the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2. The Apple Watch Series 10 will be released on September 20. The feature will be part of watchOS 11, which is expected to be released today.
Once you enable it, it requires ten nights of sleep tracking data over a period of 30 days to determine whether you have sleep apnea. It also gives information about sleep disturbances.
If the feature suspects you may have sleep apnea, it will prompt you to seek a formal diagnosis from your healthcare provider. Sleep apnea causes your breathing to become shallow and/or stop frequently during the night, and it can lead to insomnia, headaches, daytime sleepiness, and other conditions.
Samsung received FDA approval for sleep apnea detection for its Galaxy Watch earlier this year.
