Apple has released new beta versions of its various operating systems for phones, tablets, computers, watches, set-top boxes and AR headsets. Know what changes have happened.

Apple Intelligence is the main feature of iOS 18.1, but it has some issues. Specifically, there were rendering issues when using the new Siri UI with a larger Apple CarPlay display. This should now be fixed.

iOS 18 is also being developed and Apple is currently on beta 6. It includes changes such as Place ID for Apple Maps, which is “a unique and persistent identifier”. Another change is that if you’re adding your ID to Wallet, you may be asked to take a picture of it – this is intended to prevent fraud.

Developers of Apple Vision Pro software can test visionOS 2 beta 6. It increases the maximum placement distance between apps to give users more flexibility. Also, compatible apps can now be moved outside of the compatible apps folder and placed alongside apps that were designed for visionOS (long pinch any icon to enter “edit” mode). And check this out – you can now use a game controller to interact with the system UI.

MacOS Sequoia 15 beta 6 brings a number of improvements and some good news for storage-strapped folks – the App Store no longer requires twice the app’s size of free space for the initial app download and install. All you need is the app’s size + a little bit of free space.

The stable iOS 18 release is expected in the autumn, with iOS 18.1 arriving shortly after that.
