Apple iPhone 16 Pro in for review | Infinium-tech
Ever since Apple made its first big iPhone in 2014 (happy anniversary, iPhone 6 Plus), the smaller Pro model has sat in its shadow. Most years saw a disparity in specs, with the Pro Max model getting some sort of edge – like the 5x zoom camera, which was only offered on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
On the other hand, this year, the smaller Pro shines alongside its larger counterpart. Except for the size, it’s the same Pro iPhone as the Pro Max. They even share the same two-accessory retail box – you get a braided USB-C cable and a SIM tool.
So what’s new? The iPhone 16 Pro has a slightly larger 6.3-inch display compared to the 6.1-inch display of its predecessor. Like the Pro Max, this year’s Pro also has a new 48MP ultrawide angle camera, but it trades in a subpar 3x camera for 5x zoom.
Complimenting the cameras on all the new iPhone 16 models is the new Camera Control button. It’s a pretty innovative concept. It’s a proper button – it presses to open the Camera app from any screen (double press from a locked phone), but then it can also recognise the pressure and open a deeper layer of controls, and you can swipe up on it.
We really like this new button as it lets you open the camera app from anywhere, but it will take us some time to get used to it. Our first impression is that it’s better suited for portrait use and for right-handed users – in landscape mode, it takes a little getting used to.
The iPhone 16 Pro will compete with the Google Pixel 9 Pro (our review is ready!) as the go-to choices for compact flagships in developed markets.
Both phones are pretty similar – both have 6.3-inch displays, triple cameras with a 48MP ultrawide, 48MP vs. 50MP wide, and 12MP iPhone 5x vs. Pixel’s 48MP 5x. They also weigh the same 199 grams.
This will be an interesting contest in the future!
