You can now share images to Gemini, while Gemini Nano opens up to app developers | Infinium-tech
Google keeps updating Gemini with new features, and today we have some Gemini-related news. First, adding a feature that will save you some time whenever you need to tell Gemini something about an image.
That’s because with the latest version of the Gemini app for Android, you can now share an image directly to Gemini using the Android share sheet. You can then immediately ask him questions about the image you just sent.
So if you don’t want to, tap the Ask about this screen option to take a screenshot and send it to Gemini, or manually capture an image in the conversation screen with Gemini Live (which recently went live for everyone). This is another way to go about things, and it doesn’t require that you download an image first, and it also won’t clutter your screenshots folder.
Next up, the Gemini Nano, the on-device model, is now available to third-party developers. The Nano is only running on a very small number of Android devices so far (primarily the Pixel 9 series and the Galaxy S24 family), but it stands to reason that it will see a massive expansion in the coming months. Nano runs entirely on the device, so it’s fast and private.
Developers can experiment with Gemini Nano using a tool called Google AI Edge SDK. Currently, developers require Pixel 9, but support for more devices will be added soon.
This opens the door to Gemini Nano integration into third-party apps, although only text-to-text prompts are allowed by Google at the moment. There will be more ways to interact (for example with images) in the future.
