WhatsApp is adding support for paying bills in India | Infinium-tech
India is the largest market of WhatsApp so far, with over 500 million users. So it is no surprise that WhatsApp wants to make itself more useful for Indians. Now the work on which it is working is allowing you to pay your bills directly in WhatsApp, no other service is required.
It has been discovered through APK Phappa of the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android. The functionality will work with electricity bills, mobile prepaid recharge, LPG gas payment, water bills, landline postpaid bills, and fare payment – or at least, they are categories listed inside the hidden code. Of course, the list may increase – either between the initial release of either and the feature, or after that soon.
WhatsApp bill payment hidden functionality
Currently, WhatsApp allows Indians to send money for contacts and pays businesses through UPI. The bill payment system will come as an extension of the same. It is not clear when it will be launched, but if nothing is wrong, it is expected to see it within the next few months.
About a month ago, the National Payments Corporation of India removed the cap on WhatsApp pay user onboarding, meaning that WhatsApp can now provide financial services to all its 500+ million users in India. The bill payments feature will probably be a part of the push coming to receive them to use WhatsApp pay.
