UK regulator clears Microsoft’s $13B investment in OpenAI | Infinium-tech
The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has approved Microsoft’s investment of $ 13 billion in Openai after 14 months of investigation. The conclusion is that the latest investment of Microsoft does not require further investigation under the merger rules, as neither the party will gain more control over the other.
In particular, CMA does not assume that Microsoft has changed control from material effects to actual control over Openai. Therefore, the partnership will not be referred to under Section 22 of the Enterprise Act 2002 (Act). – CMA Press Release
Microsoft Openai owns an estimated 49% and has invested more than $ 14 billion in the AI research firm since 2019. The latest investment round of Microsoft in Openai is still subject to investigation from the American Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on a possible dominance in the field of AI, similar to Microsoft’s Cloud Computing Hegmani.
