TikTok to exit the US market voluntarily | Infinium-tech
Despite the US Supreme Court upholding the ban on TikTok unless it is sold to a US-based private investor, TikTok has decided to shut down after Sunday, January 19. In an official statement, the company cited political uncertainty as the main reason for the closure. Its service has been stopped in America.
The statement itself is quite short and the Biden administration has been criticized for not making any definitive statement on how the issue will be resolved and the future of TikTok in the country. Basically, there is no guarantee that the Trump administration won’t try to do this in the future, so it seems necessary to shut it down.
One could argue that TikTok is trying to show its users what would happen if banned. In a way, the company is trying to force a broader public reaction to the situation.
On the other hand, TikTok’s concerns are not unfounded. President-elect Donald Trump has not been very vocal about what he will do with TikTok and he has been slow on it, so TikTok is really forced to operate in uncertainty.
