Skype is shutting down today | Infinium-tech
This is the end of the road for Skype because today the legendary communication marks the official retirement of the platform. Current Skype users can migrate to Microsoft Teams (Free) with their Skype credentials, contacts and chat history, automatically transferred to new platforms. Skype users can export their data by January 2026, after which it will be permanently removed.
The official argument of Microsoft to shut down Skype is to “streamlines our free consumer communication offerings so that we can more easily adapt to the needs of the customer”. Microsoft teams (free) come with some downgrade compared to regular Skype. Group video calls are limited to 60 minutes and you cannot even use teams for Pay-A-U-Go Calling and SMS like you can do with Skype credit.
