Report says iPhone Air is losing its resale value at a record pace | Infinium-tech
Sales of the iPhone Air are shaping up to be a flop, and this is also impacting its resale value. A new report from salesale Depreciation of the iPhone 17 series was analyzed based on trade-in price data from over 40 US-based buyback companies over a ten-week period. Based on the data, the Air has already lost between 40.3% and 47.7% of its initial value, depending on the storage trim.
iPhone 17 series depreciation after 10 weeks
The 256GB base model iPhone Air, which has an MSRP of $999, is now 40.3% cheaper on the used market. The 512GB trim (MSRP $1,199) has lost 45% of its starting price, while the 1TB model, which sells for $1,399, will now run you just $668 — that’s a difference of 47.7%. Note that the iPhone 16 Plus with 128GB of storage lost a similar 41.6% of its initial value over the same ten-week period last year, while the vanilla 128GB iPhone 16 was at -44.2% for the same period.
Average depreciation of 2022-2025 iPhone models after 10 weeks
The rest of the iPhone 17 series is currently outperforming its predecessors in terms of resale value, depreciating an average of 34.6% for the ten-week period. The 256GB iPhone 17 Pro Max is the best performer, dropping only 26.1% from its starting price. The 256GB iPhone 17 Pro has lost 32% of its value over the same period, while the baseline 256GB iPhone 17 is in the same place -33%.
