Omdia: Apple narrowly beats Samsung in 2025, shipping the most smartphones | Infinium-tech
Apple was the king of the smartphone world last year with a record-breaking 240.6 million unit shipments and 19% market share, according to Omdia data. It beat Samsung’s 239.1 million shipments by a very slim margin. When you apply rounding the Korean company also has 19% market share. Interestingly, both Apple and Samsung have growth of exactly 7% over 2024.

In third place is Xiaomi with a 2% sales decline in 2024, with 165.4 million units shipped for a 13% market share. It is followed by Vivo with 105.3 million shipments, 8% market share and 4% year-on-year growth. Oppo ranks fifth with 100.7 million shipments, 8% market share and 3% sales decline compared to 2024.

Transion has almost entered the top five, as it also has 8% market share, and is followed by Honor with 6%, Lenovo with 5%, Huawei with 4%, and Realme with 3%.

The market overall is expected to grow 2% to 1.25 billion units in 2025. There was growth in all regions except Greater China, which experienced a slight decline due to the “fading effect of the national subsidy scheme”. Interestingly though, Apple’s sales in Mainland China were up 26% due to “strong demand for the iPhone 17 series.”
