Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 is now rolling out to the Nothing Phone (3) | Infinium-tech
As promised a few days ago, Today Nothing has started releasing the update to Nothing OS 4.0, which is based on Android 16. This is after quite a long beta testing period.
As we expected, the update is going to the Nothing phones (3) first. The company says other Nothing and CMF devices will follow, but it is not currently committing to any specific timeframe for any other models.
The update brings deeper flip-to glyph controls, a refined Pocket mode, and new glyph toys (hourglass and lunar cycle) to the Nothing Phone (3), while Mirror Selfie now lets you save the original photo as an additional image in your gallery.

Those are new bits specific to all phones (3). The rest of the changelog, which you can see below, will be shared with other devices.
- Live updates deliver real-time ride, delivery and timer information straight to your screen and the Glyph interface integrates lock-screen, notification and light-based cues so you can instantly track progress without opening the app.
- Any app that supports the live update feature of Android 16 will now start supporting the Nothing Glyph Progress feature. This means that nothing can support more apps than ever before.
- A sophisticated Extra Dark Mode deepens blacks, improves contrast, and reduces power usage throughout the system.
- It brings a cooler, more focused look to notifications, quick settings, and the app drawer, improving both comfort and visibility in low light.
- This has now expanded to first-party apps like Essential Spaces and Launcher, with broader integration to follow.
- Nothing OS 4.0 enhances the system speed experience. Every touch, swipe and gesture now responds with more depth and tact.
- Haptic Feedback at Volume Limit – When adjusting volume, subtle haptic feedback now appears at the maximum and minimum points. This gives you immediate, physical feedback, even when you’re not looking at the screen.
- App open and close animations – Opening and closing apps now feels smoother and more immersive. The home screen background gradually scales in or out, creating a sense of depth and connection that makes every transition feel alive.
- Improved notification interactions – Every activity has a subtle sense of weight and rebound, creating a smooth, responsive flow throughout the interface.
- More widget sizes – Design your home screen your way. New 1×1 and 2×1 layouts for Weather, Pedometer and Screen Time let you create a balanced setup that brings out what matters most while keeping space to a minimum.
- Pop-up view – You can now open two floating apps at once and switch between them with simple gestures. Swipe up from the bottom to minimize or drag down to expand to full screen.
- Hidden Icons – Keep your layout clean and personal. You can hide any app from your app drawer, while keeping access just a swipe away. It’s an easy way to simplify your home screen and create a setup that reflects your style.
Like all software updates, this one is likely to be released in phases, so if your Nothing Phone (3) hasn’t notified you about it yet, don’t worry because it’s coming. You just have to wait for a few days and it will reach you.
