iPhone 17 to have 12GB of RAM, compared to only 8GB in the iPhone 16 | Infinium-tech
Apple is announcing the iPhone 16 series on September 9, and a new rumor claims all four models will get 8GB of RAM. In contrast, the iPhone 17 family arriving next year will have 12GB of RAM.
This is a very significant leap and it’s obviously to do with AI – Apple intelligence features will be mostly cloud-based this time around, but once the iPhone 17 models launch, a lot of the AI will be on-device, so more RAM will be needed.
Google has already increased the RAM of its devices with the Pixel 9 family launched earlier this month, and it is only using a portion of the RAM for AI applications and nothing else.
So while Apple has traditionally equipped its iPhones with a lot less RAM than its Android competitors, it appears that this is about to change in 2025 thanks to AI. That is, of course, if this rumor turns out to be true.
