Instagram is removing end-to-end encryption | Infinium-tech
In a very definite case of ‘not something that happens often’, Instagram has decided to remove end-to-end encryption (E2EE). It wasn’t long ago that meta-owned properties like WhatsApp and Instagram were bragging about adding E2EE to their chats, but now one of them is going in the exact opposite direction.
As you would expect in an attempt to avoid an online uproar about this matter, Instagram has not announced this in a press release or blog post. Instead, it has quietly updated its support section to read that E2EE will no longer be supported after May 8.

So, the service’s wording on the same page says, “If you have chats that are affected by this change, you will see instructions on how to download any media or messages you want to keep”.
To recap, E2EE ensures that “only you and the people you’re communicating with can see or hear what’s sent, and no one else, not even Meta, can do that” – that’s according to Instagram’s words, not ours.
So, with that in mind, please keep in mind the fact that as of May 9th, Meta Desire You can see and hear everything you send or receive on Instagram. And so will governments who ask for your data.
