The Q4 2024 period saw a decline in shipments of foldables for the first time since tracking the segment began nine quarters ago. IDC reported that with phones becoming thinner and lighter and companies coming out with larger batteries and less visible creases, customers are not as eager to buy foldables.
Users are still wary of the high price; Only beginner users buy this type of smartphone. IDC said it has become harder to appeal to such niche consumers, and companies need to do more in terms of technological advancements.
