Huawei tops Q2 global wearables market | Infinium-tech
A total of 43.7 million wrist wearable devices (smartbands and smartwatches) were shipped during the April-June period (Q2) and Huawei topped the global market in terms of both shipments and market share, according to the latest wearable device tracker data. IDCIn 2014, Huawei saw a remarkable 42% year-on-year growth rate with 8.9 million global shipments and a 20.3% market share.
China was the largest market for wearables, where Huawei shipped an estimated 6 million wrist wearables and increased its market share to 38.4%. Despite Huawei’s success, the global smart wearables market saw a marginal 0.7% decline compared to the same period last year.
Huawei saw strong demand for its bands and smartwatch devices, with the Watch Fit 3 being the main driver of growth worldwide. The brand also managed to expand its market share in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America.
Xiaomi ranked second globally with 5.9 million shipments and 13.5% market share. Xiaomi’s entry-level Redmi series played a key role in growth, while more premium devices such as the Watch S3 and Watch 2 also performed well.
Apple came in third with 5.7 million shipments and 13.1% market share. Cupertino saw shipments decline by about 12% year-on-year due to fierce price competition from its Chinese competitors.
Samsung shipped 3.3 million wearables in the period, with the Galaxy Fit 3 being the main growth driver. BBK rounded out the top five with 2.9 million shipments and a 6.6% market share, thanks to strong demand for its children’s watch models in China.
