Google Wallet can now store California ID cards and drivers’ licenses | Infinium-tech
Google has been improving its Wallet app over the past few years and has made it useful not just for payments but also for adding boarding passes, loyalty cards, transit cards, etc. Also, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, and Maryland are all states that allow Google Wallet to store personal IDs and driver’s licenses. Now, California citizens can do the same.
The latest version of Google Wallet now gives you the option to add California IDs and driver’s licenses, though it’s important to note that this is still a pilot program and currently has a limit of 1.5 million registrations.
The requirements aren’t too many. You just need a smartphone running Android 8.0 or later, as well as Bluetooth and Nearby Devices permissions so the Wallet app can share your ID with entities that request it. You can also choose what information to share from your documents, which is very useful for privacy.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that government-issued cards don’t sync with your Google account. They stay with the phone itself, so you’ll need to add them again if you change devices.
The verification process requires a short selfie video, which is sent to the DMV. You will then receive your verification via email.
