Google Play will soon alert you if an app might drain your battery faster | Infinium-tech
Google has announced that starting March 1, 2026, the Play Store will display alerts for apps that can drain your phone’s battery faster due to excessive background activity.
In a blog post, Google explained its new “excessive partial wake lock” metric, which was first introduced in beta earlier this year to address the issue of battery drain. Developed in collaboration with Samsung, the metric is now available to all Android app developers.

Google said it has established a new “bad behavior threshold” to identify apps that keep devices active for too long through excessive wake locks. If an app does not meet the threshold, it may be excluded from Play Store recommendations, and Google may display a warning on its listings indicating potential battery drain.
According to Google, an app exceeds the limit if it has a “non-exempt wake lock” for more than two hours in a 24-hour period. Wake locks required for audio playback or data transfer are excluded from this calculation. Specifically, an app crosses the “bad behavior threshold” if 5% or more of its user sessions exhibit excessive wake locks within a 28-day period.
