Google Pixel 10 to get an overhauled camera system, 10 Pro Fold sees minor changes | Infinium-tech
Leaked internal Google Documents fully reveal the camera hardware of the upcoming Google Pixel 10 lineup. According to the information shared by Android authority Get Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL, will maintain the same cameras exactly as its predecessors, while Pixel 10 will get a full overhaul. On the other hand, the Pixel 10 Pro fold, a minor upgrade.
Let’s start with more interesting changes. We have received some good news and some bad news. Vanilla Pixel 10 gets a dedicated telephoto camera, although we do not know the exact focal length. It uses 11MP 1/3.0 “Samsung JJ1 sensor, which is much smaller than the 1/2.55” sensor used in two professionals.
Unfortunately, the added telephoto unit may have increased production costs, so to compensate for this, Google is changing the main and ultravide cameras with inferior, quite small sensors. The main Samsung GNV, 1/1.31 “Pixel 9 from the pixel 9 will be swapped to Samsung GN8, 1/1.95”. Ultrawide 48mp Sony IMX858 1/2.55 “will be replaced with 13MP Sony IMX712, 1/3.1”.
Frankly, it seems to be a way to promote sales by playing just specs games. Slapping a small telephoto camera digitally will not be better than a large primary sensor to 2x or 3x, especially in a low-lighting position. So, in a way, Pixel 10 will basically be a pixel 9A with a telephoto shooter.
As a Pixel 10 Pro fold, it will get a new main camera, which is running from 64MP Sony IMX787 to 50MP Samsung GN8, which is also used in Pixel 9A. Funny, it can also be a downgrade because it is a slightly small sensor.
This is probably very early to do justice, and the future tensor G4 allegedly advanced ISP may present some magical AI-managed post-processing that will compensate. We will have to wait and see.
