Google is making it easier to protect your data if your phone gets stolen | Infinium-tech
Google is reportedly pushing a feature update for some Android phones to add anti-theft features like Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock. The latter isn’t exactly new, and many Android users already have it. However, Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock are brand new functionalities that were announced in May and enhance data security.
Anti-Theft Features
Theft detection lock is the coolest of them all. It leverages AI and the device’s sensors to detect common theft-related activities. For example, if someone pulls the phone out of your hand and starts playing. It can also detect activities related to bike or car. The phone will automatically lock and block all access to your apps and data.
On the other hand, Offline Device Lock locks your device when a thief tries to keep your phone disconnected for a long period of time.
As far as Remote Lock goes, it allows you to remotely lock your phone using just your phone number in case Find My Device is turned off or you can sign in to your Google Account to do it yourself. Can’t log in.
It’s still unclear which phones Google is adding the new features to, but you might want to check if you have the latest version of Google Play Services.
