Google is looking for user feedback on the Google TV platform | Infinium-tech
Although it’s often forgotten and overlooked, Google’s TV platform is actually a fairly large and successful product. Apparently, there are currently over 270 million Google TV device owners worldwide. The online giant is launching a special “Insider” program to help shape the future of the OS.
It’s called the Google TV Advisory Community, and people have started reporting and seeing banners on their Google TV devices asking to join said community. The banner description says the space is an “exclusive online community where you can help improve the Google TV experience.”
It seems like Google intends for the whole thing to involve a little more than just taking surveys. Of course, that will happen, but the tech giant also expects other “fun research activities” to happen as well. Expect to interact once or twice a month. There are certain features that need to be included. The most obvious beta test would be “new Google TV features that are about to be released”. Additionally, participants will be eligible to win one of five $50 gift cards in a monthly drawing.
Presumably, you must have a Google TV device to participate in the Mentor Community, although this is Public Sign-up Form Looks like it’s open to anyone at this point.
Of course, participants will be giving up quite a bit of personal data, and the terms and conditions allow Google to collect “audio, video, or photographs of you and your interactions with our products and services.” The content captured by the brand may include “your face, voice, physical characteristics, mannerisms, likeness and interactions”. So, maybe don’t implement this if you want your media consumption habits to remain relatively private.
