There are hordes of fans flocking to Paris to watch the Olympics live, but many are also watching from home – and Samsung is helping to get them as close to the match as possible.
Right now, fans can follow the sailing competition taking place in the waters near Marseille. Samsung and the organizers are using the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to livestream the progress of each competitor.

Phones were installed on the sailboats used in these events. For the kitesurfing and windsurfing events, an S24 Ultra was strapped to each athlete’s shoulder. In addition, phones were installed on buoys to provide additional angles.
Getting this going was no easy task as these phones were put under some pretty harsh conditions for a digital gadget – they had to survive being soaked in salty water and being left outside in the hot sun all day.
The cameras’ OIS system is also being tested, so that it can smooth out rough terrain. Also, additional relay towers were to be installed to ensure that the phone’s 5G modem can get a reliable connection and provide a stable livestream.
