Fragile foldables? Check out our Honor Magic V3 torture tests | Infinium-tech
Many people still believe that foldable smartphones are primarily more fragile than slab-style devices. This is despite the fact that foldables have had half a decade to evolve and overcome their growing problems. But the question is: are foldables fragile?
We decided to find out for ourselves, putting the Honor Magic V3 through a variety of durability tests. Let’s see once more if foldables really do fall short of slab-style phones in this crucial respect. If you’re ready, grab some popcorn and hit the play button below.
So here’s what happened. We tested the water resistance, first in terms of immersion and then in terms of its ability to withstand water pressure. Then, we put it in a washing machine to verify the claim made by Honor that it can withstand anything like that without any problems. Turns out, it was true. Sadly, we didn’t have a hydraulic press to verify the second in-house test done by the marker.
We then froze the Magic V3 inside a block of ice, to test its ability to withstand temperature extremes. The phone passed all these tests with flying colours. We tried scratching the plastic protector applied to the folding screen, and, it did scratch, very easily, with just a fingernail. However, this was only a replaceable protector, so it’s not as bad as it sounds.
The Magic V3’s hinge probably got the worst treatment. We made it hold 5kg of weight, and it didn’t budge. Then we used the phone as a hammer, which left a slight dent – but no effect on normal operation. And finally we did some drop tests and we’re not going to spoil these for you – make sure you watch the video till the end to see the results.
