Canalys: Indian smartphone market sees modest growth in 2024 | Infinium-tech
The Indian smartphone market is expected to grow by 5% in 2024, with total shipments of 155.9 million for the calendar year. Latest report from canals It turns out that Vivo was India’s leading smartphone brand by 2024 in terms of shipments with 29.5 million units and 19% market share. Xiaomi (including Poco) stood second with an estimated 26.6 million shipments and 17% market share, while Samsung stood third with 25.7 million shipments and 16% market share.

Oppo (including OnePlus) managed 18.3 million shipments and captured 12% market share, while Realme and its 16.6 million shipments and 11% market share rounded out the top five brands. According to Canalys analysts, consumers were largely motivated to upgrade their devices in a refresh cycle following the pandemic and 5G upgrades. Brands faced stock pile-up during the festive season, leading to huge year-end discounts.
The report also outlined trends in total shipments for the fourth quarter of 2024, which showed a slight decline of 4% year-on-year compared to the previous year. The ranking of the top four brands based on shipments and market share was the same on an annual basis, with the only exception being Apple, which climbed to fifth place.
Cupertino managed 4 million shipments in Q4 and achieved 11% market share, making it on par with Oppo. Apple experienced 39% annual growth due to promotions and discounts during the festive season and iPhone releases.

Looking ahead, Canalys predicts single-digit growth in 2025 with strong demand for devices in the $100-$200 range and less interest in the sub-$100 range and premium segments.
